{الفكر القومي العربي} FW: I went to meet and listen to Dr Morsi.rtf

Reflection on Dr. Morsy's visit to US.

I went to meet and listen to Dr. Morsy the President of Egypt. The meeting was held in New York where over five hundred Egyptians gathered, and delighted to meet their president. Many of us have paid with their time away from work and funds to travel so the trip was important to all who attended.

The planning for the meeting , who to invite, who will not be allowed to attend, who will have the privilege of Small meetings, who will meet directly with the president and who will meet with his aids, then finally one meeting for all was decided the day before the meeting.

A nice pleasant surprise was the meeting with special liaison hired to connect and communicate with the eight million Egyptians abroad.

There were many Egyptians demonstrating in front of the United Nations to show their displeasure and fear of what is happening in Egypt since President Morsy became a president. There were also demonstrators in front of the Hilton hotel where President Morsy was going to give his speech. A group of Egyptians asked if we can go out to support our president as not to look like he is being embarrassed by his own people. I went out to support our president, the president of Egypt.

Here is how I see the Muslim brotherhood members cause Dr. Morsy more trouble than he needs at this time. I am doing it for history's sack and not anti- any one or any ideology.

After a group of people shouted Morsy , Morsy ,then one person started to shout what sounded to me like Muslim brotherhood slogans such as Dr. Morsy is the president of the Muslim Egyptians, of the Sunni , the protector of Islam, and I was horrified of their shouting in the middle of Manhattan.

That is a big blunder in my mind. President Morsy is the president of all Egyptians and not what these Muslim Brotherhood want him to be. I got mad and asked someone to get them to stop, he said that they will not listen to him. I took it upon myself to change the situation and with my squeaky voice I started to shout out " Tahia Miser, long live Egypt, Muslim and Christians united , one Egypt." Every one followed me and we made the appropriate change.
Going back to the meeting, I know that Dr. Morsy meant well and he wanted to hear from Egyptians directly but being the president comes with presidential behavior, how to hold a meeting, how to conduct oneself, how to respond or pivot questions and comments. Dr. Morsy did not come from the diplomatic line of training , neither did he come from the military or police academies where they would train a person on how to walk, talk and handle public engagements, and being a member of the Muslim brotherhood group for sure did not equip him with any of these needed skills.

Dr. Morsy did not have a speech prepared so he was speaking on different matters and his speech showed lack of organizations and preparations. The meeting was so disorganized to a point that some Egyptians considered that to be deliberate from the Egyptian Consulate in New York who is being labeled as old regime, but others report that what happened was a response to Dr. Morsy's naturalistic style.

Dr. Morsy responded to questions from Egyptians who did not respect the process, who were out of order, who refused to sit and wait for their possible turn. That in my opinion was more hindering to the president than helping, getting him on topics that he should not have touched like prisoners in America who were identified as terrorists like Sheik Abdelrahman.

Dr. Morsy talked about bits and pieces projects but either he missed a great opportunity to share a vision with us Egyptians to tell us where Egypt was aiming for or he simply did not have one to offer. A few positive and important conclusions came out of this meeting:

 Dr. Morsy means well and he was the first ever Egyptian President that sought to meet with true Egyptians abroad, not a staged group nor only special interest groups or individuals.

 Dr. Morsy shared his thoughts and opinions with Egyptians without reservations.

 Dr. Morsy learned that Egyptians in the United States of America do not ask for any favors or needs for themselves but, contrary to what many believe, Egyptians in the US are eager to give back to Egypt. We, Egyptians abroad, have been asking out loud to be included in Egypt's reform and building.

Now that President Morsy heard it so clearly from Egyptians in the U.S., may be, people who surround Dr. Morsy will allow Dr. Morsy and Egypt to benefit from Egyptians abroad, their expertise and back ground not just their financial donations.

My conclusion is for Dr. Morsy to grow with the job , He must shake off the Muslim brotherhood mantle, and open doors for others to serve him and Egypt

God bless Egypt and May God bless all Egyptians.
