Khashoggi’s Friends; A Call for Justice

(Washington, D.C.) - Thousands around the globe are gathering in key world capitals and cities on Thursday, October 25, to protest the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi and announce the formation of the ‘Jamal Khashoggi’s Friends around the World’ association. The gatherings, will take place in Washington, London, Paris and Istanbul, and unite various human rights, media and political groups and figures that demand improvement in human rights and justice across the Middle East.
“Jamal Khashoggi has become a symbol for freedom of speech. And the ferocious circumstances of his murder are a reminder of what it may take to stand against tyrants in the region,” Mohamed Ismail, an organizer and coordinator for Egyptians Abroad for Democracy Worldwide (EAFDW), said on Wednesday.
EAFDW along with Saudi citizens living abroad, Amnesty International, CODEPINK, International Action, Gandhi for Peace, CEAR, BE Magazine, Democracy for Egypt, Homeland for All are organizing the event which will have various speakers in each location.
The Washington gathering will be held on Oct. 25 at 11amET in front of the Saudi embassy. A press conference there will feature remarks by leaders from the organizing groups in addition to Saudi journalist Ali Al-Ahmed (Director of Institute for Gulf Affairs), as well as Khashoggi’s friend Mohamed Okda and U.S. Army Colonel Ann Wright (Ret.), recipient of the 1997 State Department Award for Heroism.

At the press conference, the organizers will deliver three important letters to the White House, U.S. Congress, and the Saudi Embassy with demands to bring justice to the killing of Khashoggi on October 2 at Saudi’s Istanbul consulate.
The gathering and press conference in Paris will be held Thursday at 5pm local time in front of the Saudi embassy. The event in Istanbul will take place on Thursday at 6pm local time in front of the Saudi consulate where Khashoggi was murdered. The protest in London will be on Friday at 3pm local time outside the Saudi embassy.
All gatherings will announce the establishment of the ‘Khashoggi’s Friends around the World association. The group seeks to achieve justice for the free speech martyr, and to perpetuate his memory.
The association’s founders include former heads of state, prime ministers, and ministers, as well as international media figures, who all believe in the justice of Khashoggi’s cause.
