3rd:  Big THANKS if you have already signed the petition, if not please do so: http://www.change.org/petitions/discrimination-no-human-rights-no-sister-city

4th:  Plan to attend the August 14, 6pm City Council meeting; plan on arriving by 5:15/5:30pm to ensure that you get in.

 Sample call-in messages:

 ● Why is Ashkelon, Israel being considered as a sister city for Sacramento when it discriminates against some Sacramentans by not allowing them to visit based on their national origin, religion and ethnicity?

 ● If the City Council votes to support the Ashkelon sister city project, knowing that it would discriminate against members of our community based on national origin, the Council is opening our city to a law suit. Discrimination on the basis of national origin is illegal under the U.S. and California Constitutions.

 ● Ashkelon, Israel is not an appropriate sister city for Sacramento because human rights and international law are not respected there.

 ● Sister city projects are supposed to come from a volunteer group of ordinary citizens.  Ashkelon, Israel is proposed by a professional organization that engages in paid advocacy for a foreign government.  This is a misuse of the sister city program and the Sacramento city resources that support it.

Citizens of Ashkelon, Israel who are Palestinian Muslim and Christians are discriminated against; they do not have the same rights, benefits or access to land, education and jobs as Ashkelon citizens who are Jewish.

 ● I am concerned about Ashkelon being a sister city of Sacramento because of serious issues that have been raised. I need more time to consider this proposal and I am sure others and the City Council do as well.  It should be postponed for several months so that the concerns can be thoroughly investigated.
