Subject: Why should we vote for Hamdeen Sabahy
We had an amazing meeting at my house last night. A meeting for Egyptians living in the United States of America, the topic was who do we vote for. That topic is so new for all of us Egyptians , whether we live out side or in side Egypt. This fact by itself must be celebrated and give us hope for the future of Egypt.
Another reason to make me optimistic at this time is the level of maturity of Egyptians speaking for their favorite candidate.
Before I get into what was covered during the meeting, I would like to remind all of us that the scarifies to gain our rights which we are practicing right now , is too high and must never be forgotten.Egyptian blood is the highest sacrifice and I hope we consider every drop that was spilled from every one of our finest Egyptians, we must never forget them and we must always honor them by making the right decision for Egypt and for those that sacrificed and their causes.
We also must never forget that our girls for the first time in Egypt were uncovered , undressed and beaten in the streets of Egypt , a vivid memory that makes me ashamed and angry , every time I think of Egypt and what is happening to us.
One of our participants in the meeting was a fine colleague who defended his choice for Dr. Abdelminim Abu Elftooh , he emphasized that Dr. Abu Elftooh will not take Egypt towards an Islamic system because he left the Muslim Brother hood party. That subject was debated but tolerated.
The one candidate that created a lot of anger and heated discussion was the debate of Amer Mussa, when his supporter indicated that Amer Mussa will bring business contact to Egypt , people questioned the seriousness of the clam and Amer Mussa's real loyalty and back ground. What was Amer Mussa's contributions to Egypt all his life and why would he do any thing now if he did not succeed for his seventy five years? At the end we were glad to see his representative declare that he was going to give a second thought towards Mr. Sabahy.
We had skyped with another candidate in Egypt but we thought his programs lacked individualism and creativity so we thanked them and went back to our debate .
The one candidate who took most of the evening was Mr. Hamdeen Sabahy. The one person who was strongly against Mr. Sabahy was a dear Nubian who hates Gamal Abdelnaser and what he and his government did to the Nubian brothers and sisters. Our friend's fear is the repeated injustice that has been happening to the Nubian , and since Mr. sabahy is a fan of Naser , he might be subscriber to his policy.
I think of Dr. Abu Elftooh as a man who spent most of his life as a part of the Muslim Brotherhood, and as he indicated himself very clearly that he is one of them as clear as his name.
Nothing against the Muslim Brother hood as a movement that do good in Egypt , social projects , teach religion, but I am puzzled by two questions.
Where were the Muslim Brother hood when our girls were so shamed in the streets of Cairo if the Muslim brother hood' s main calling is to defend Islam ? Isn't it a clear principal in Islam to protect women ? How could the Muslim brother hood watch and do nothing ? What happened to our Islamic principal ? Did they sell for the political gain ?
My second question is : If the Muslim brother hood and the Salafies call for justice as part of Islam : Is it justice to have only five women in the Maglas Elshab and Maglas Elshoura ? Where is justice in that ?
OK I said two questions but here is my third :
If the Muslim Brother hood and the Salafies want to be fair to all Egyptians , how come they acted in such a shameful way towards selecting representatives to write an Egyptian Constitution ? It is called an Egyptian Constitution , not a Muslim Brotherhood Constitution ? Why did they want to take every thing and leave no representations for other Egyptians , why the greed ?
All these questions leave Hamdeen Sabahy standing up so tall and shiny. Mr. Sabahy is in the middle, he calls for sharing of governing , he calls for social justice, lawful civic society. For private investors with social conscious.
I believe if Mr. Sabahy wins , the very next t day, Egypt will sigh and breath easier , not extremely happy but not angry either. That will be a beginning of healing process and building, where every one will be welcome to the fold. Where we all can have a role in building Egypt.I think Hamdeen Sabahy is the conscious of Egypt .
For these reasons and more, I am calling to support Mr. Hamdeen Sabahy and I hope for Egypt's sake that he can be the president of Egypt.
Samia Salah Harris.
